Lamine Yamal to Miss Barcelona Season But Eyes World Cup
In a disappointing turn of events for both Barcelona and Spain, forward Lamine Yamal will be sidelined for the rest of the Barcelona season due to a hamstring injury. However, there’s a silver lining as he is anticipated to be fit before the upcoming World Cup.
Injury Details
The 18-year-old talent suffered a left leg hamstring injury during Wednesday’s narrow 1–0 victory against Celta Vigo. Although Yamal successfully converted a penalty to give Barcelona the lead in the 40th minute, he signaled to the bench moments later before collapsing, clearly in pain. Medical staff swiftly assisted him off the field, and he headed straight down the tunnel for treatment.
Club’s Response
On Thursday, the club confirmed Yamal’s injury, stating that he will “follow a conservative treatment plan” and will be absent for the remainder of the league season. The good news, however, is that he is “expected to return in time for the World Cup.”
Yamal’s Reaction
Expressing his feelings on social media, Yamal wrote,
“This injury leaves me off the field at the time I most wanted to be, and it hurts more than I can explain. It hurts not being able to fight with my teammates, not being able to help when the team needs me. But I believe in them and I know they’re going to give their all in every game. I’ll be there, even if it’s from the outside, supporting, encouraging and pushing as one of them. This is not the end; this is just a break. I’ll come back stronger, more eager than ever, and next season will be better.”
Barcelona’s Title Chase
Barcelona currently stands at the top of La Liga, demonstrating strong form with a nine-point lead over their rivals, Real Madrid. The two teams are set to clash again on May 10, one of the final six matches left in the season.
World Cup Outlook
Spain is scheduled to kick off their World Cup journey in Group H against Cape Verde on June 15. Following that match, they will face Saudi Arabia on June 21, and round out the group stage with a match against Uruguay on June 27.
