The deputy days before had received threats and today unfortunately a success occurred against him, confirming the high-risk environment for political figures in Sinaloa. This Wednesday, Culiacan became the scene of a direct assault that has escalated political tensions to a critical point, especially after it was revealed that Sergio Torres received threats signed by “Gente del Sombrero” just days prior to this assassination attempt.

A Predicted Ambush
The attack took place roughly an hour ago in the streets of Culiacan. According to reports from TV Azteca Noticias and Infobae, the vehicle carrying the Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) lawmakers was targeted by an armed commando. Sources close to the deputy’s team confirmed that the previous intimidations warned of reprisals, allegedly originating from cells linked to the Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada faction.

“Gente del Sombrero” Authority
The fact that Sergio Torres received threats signed by “Gente del Sombrero” is a crucial lead for federal authorities. This signature, associated with the Zambada organization, suggests a deliberate attempt to exercise control over political actors in the state. Following the gunfire, the deputies’ security detail managed to return fire, allowing both Torres and Elizabeth Montoya to escape physically unharmed, although the political impact of the event is undeniable.

Emergency Response
In response to the shooting, the Security Cabinet has deployed a massive search operation in the surrounding neighborhoods. The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) is expected to conduct ballistic tests on the legislators’ vehicle, which shows multiple high-caliber bullet impacts consistent with the weaponry used by the operational cells that proclaim themselves under the command of the “Sombrero” faction.
